Top 12 Antidepressant Nutrients & The Foods That Have Them

As I have learned more and more about nutrition and overall wellness, I have seen the undeniable connection between the two. Not only have I read numerous scientific articles on the topic, but I have also seen an improvement in my own mental and overall wellness after seriously changing my eating habits!

My research into this topic began with an article by Dr. Drew Ramsey and Laura LaChance. In their article they indicate 12 nutrients that are the frontrunners in antidepressant nature. If you’d like to learn more about how they came to this conclusion in their study you can find it HERE!

I decided to take their top 12 nutrient list and find out which foods have these nutrients! They provide their antidepressant food list which is a combination of all different nutrients, but I have broken it down into 12 sections for each nutrient! I went to and found the top 10 foods based on serving size for each nutrient and I created the infographics below!

As mentioned above, the food suggestions for the specific nutrients were provided by The information is based on traditional serving size of the food item.

You may have noticed that there are some recurring foods listed above. These foods are salmon, spinach, seeds/nuts, beans, beef, lean pork chops, and shellfish. Clearly these foods are very nutritious and should be included in your mental wellness diet if possible!

On top of the awesome infographics above, I have created a grocery list that goes beyond the foods listed above! I compiled a list of the top 10 foods under each nutrient and made you the awesome grocery list below! Enjoy!
